Important information to remember while using Subutex:

• Pregnant ladies should not use Subutex during their pregnancy as practicing this medication during pregnancy might cause drug dependence in the baby. This can lead to life-threatening withdrawal symptoms and require several weeks of medical treatment.

• People who are allergic to Subutex or any other medication containing active Buprenorphine or have used another opioid pain killer in the past 4 hours should not practice this medication.

• The patients who have had a methadone treatment, head injury, brain tumor, liver/kidney disease, any breathing disorder, or lung disease in the past. Then should inform the doctor about it before using Subutex for their treatment.

• Ladies with a nursing baby who use this medication should not breast-feed. Subutex can dissolve into breast milk and cause side effects like drowsiness and breathing problems.

• Using Subutex could increase the chances of having seizures, especially in people who have had seizures in the past. Thus you should consult the doctor to know the chances of having seizures or convulsions during the treatment with Subutex.

• Patients who have been using Subutex for a long time or in substantial doses might develop a tolerance for the drug. Thus these patients should inform the doctor if the medication stops working so that they could prescribe a higher dose rather than using it frequently to get the effect.

• The patients who are 65 or older and use Subutex for their treatment should be extra careful while practicing it as they are a lot more sensitive to the side effects of this medication.

• Long term regular use of Subutex or any other opioids might cause dependence. A sudden lowering or stopping of Subutex dosage might cause higher risks of having withdrawal symptoms. Thus the patients should talk to the doctor before lowering the dose or stop using Subutex.
